Renters Insurance
Ohio does not require renters to obtain insurance. However, landlords can require renters insurance as a requirement of a lease.
Renters Insurance Coverage
Renters' insurance covers all of the following:
- Personal liability - This protects you if you are sued after property damage or bodily injury has occurred. For instance, if a guest hurts, slips, and falls in your unit, this may cover you if they try and sue you.
- Medical payments - This provides medical expense coverage in the event someone injures themselves.
- Loss of use - This covers additional costs that you may have to cover when you cannot live in your home following a loss. It will cover the extra living expenses you incur because you are not able to live in your home.
- Personal property - This covers your personal items, such as clothing, furniture, and electronics, if they are stolen, or damaged or destroyed by a covered peril.
